Review of Experis by CookPosted: Wednesday, 03 July 2019 - Ottawa
Good food, poor pay You get a free meal when you work during lunch hours or supper time. You can also get unlimited free soft drinks from the coke machine, but management doesn't allow you to drink bottled juice or anything else that is expensive. You learn to cook and prepare some food in the kitchen with the side jobs and all. Since it is a fast food restaurant where the food is cooked right in front of the customers, you have a chance to interact with the customers directly, instead of normal restaurant cooking jobs where you are hidden in the kitchen all day. No future, no career advancement, poor pay, no tips. In my case, I was also limited to taking the lowest cost meals such as Teriyaki Chicken or Beef (Rice with chicken or beef with Teriyaki sauce), no Yakisoba (Japanese noodles) or Gyoza( Japanese dumplings). No career advancement in the sense that you pretty much learn everything in 2 weeks and you wouldn't be able to improve in the future. Also, you pretty much do not learn any transferable skills. I mean, if you are a sushi cook, you have the skill to make sushi at home or when you transfer to another restaurant. In this case, you're pretty much stuck in cooking food on a hot grill and that's pretty much it.
